Engineer in Yet Another Zombie Survivors
The shield that buys minute sixteen. Tesla is a style. Rescue is the default.
Engineer is the best rescue in Yet Another Zombie Survivors and a real, if greedier, leader. She starts unlocked with SWAT and Tank. The Energy Shield is why new accounts see Isolated City dawn. Tesla, Electric Turret, and Electrocution are the garnish that make her S on the survivor tier list as a pickup and high A as a lead. This page is how to play her in 1.0 after Ranger, Bio Lab, and rank 5 trees shipped on 20 August 2026. Board order still lives on best builds. This is the search for an Engineer guide.
Leader perk is full cooldown and gadget value. Rescue perk is half of that and still a shield. Rank 2 at 5,000 leader kills. Rank 3 after 20,000 more. Rank 5 in 1.0 adds synergy nodes that feed ice, Fear, and turret uptime when the right partners are present. Rank her if you actually lead Tesla nights. Do not rank her instead of SWAT if Isolated City Hardcore is still a corpse screen.
Shield first, museum never
The build is the shield. Electrocute and turrets are how you spend leftover levels. Finish Tesla if she leads. If she is a rescue, feed SWAT’s rifle or Tank’s rockets before you stack a third turret. 1.0 weapon range still hurts point-blank jokes; Tesla’s area stays honest when the horde is a ring. Ice Turret is Mechanic’s toy after hotfix 1.0.0a tagged it as Ice — do not confuse that with Engineer’s electric line. See damage types and weapon tiers.
Cooldown Training is her steroid. Zero cooldown can hitch the client on gadget-heavy kits. Leave a sliver. That sentence is also on the squad planner because people still ignore it. If the run stutters when every turret pops, you did not find a secret DPS tech. You found a frame drop. Hotfix 1.0.0c2 already cut Flarebolt hitching; your turret museum is still on you.
Squads
Default workhorse: SWAT lead, Engineer, Tank. Crit school: SWAT, Engineer, Huntress. Boss nights: SWAT or Ghost, Engineer, Huntress. Ranger as rescue wants this shield while Fear applies. Mechanic plus Engineer is the ice-amp late toy, not a first dawn. Pyro wants someone who can stand still less, which is either you or Tank. Recipes: best squads.
Do not refuse her ping because “I wanted a fourth DPS.” There is no fourth slot. Half a shield is still the difference between kite and box.
Modes
Default dawn: she is mandatory unless you are doing a joke. Survive until dawn assumes the shield exists by minute eight. Hardcore: fewer turrets, more walking — How to beat Hardcore. Endurance after twenty minutes: Elite Bosses ignore some of what trash feared; the shield still buys wind-up. Boss Rush wants burst at minute ten, not a parking lot of coils. Bio Lab wants the orbit plus a shield; the red decontamination cycle does not care that Tesla looks pretty. Infinite is where turret museums become a screensaver. That is not a Default plan.
Training, Camp, items
Cooldown, Role Player, movement. Refund vanity. Training. Camp missions that force an Engineer lead are optional; retry from the Mission Log. Team Bond still pays from shield-core clears. Magnets and Glass Cannon: items and item tiers. Glass Cannon without a shield is a tombstone. You are the shield.
If Engineer feels empty, you led Tesla on night one, stacked turrets before a gun, or set cooldown to zero. Rescue her. Finish someone else’s rifle. Walk. Then read Getting Started if the first hour still hurts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Should Engineer lead?
Only after Hardcore is easy and you want a Tesla night. Rescue is the default for 1.0 learning.
What is her best weapon?
Tesla as a lead. As a rescue, feed the DPS gun on SWAT or Tank first.
Why does zero cooldown hitch?
Too many gadgets tick at once. Leave a sliver of cooldown on Training.
Is she required for Bio Lab?
A shield is. She is the usual source. Ranger Fear is extra, not a replacement.
