SWAT Guide

SWAT is the first survivor you own and still the honest 1.0 leader after Ranger arrived on 20 August 2026. He is not exciting. He is the reason Isolated City Hardcore is a badge instead of a refund thread. This page is his gun line, his gadgets, his ranks, and the nights you should leave him in slot one. Ability order in a run lives on best builds. Letters live on the survivor tier list. Unlock counters for everyone else live on how to unlock survivors. This page is the search for a SWAT guide.

He starts unlocked with Tank and Engineer. Leader perk is full-strength, which is why he is S as a lead. Rescue perk is half; a rescued SWAT is still a rifle, not a passenger. Rank 2 at 5,000 leader kills. Rank 3 after 20,000 more. Version 1.0 added a fifth rank with extra synergy and passive nodes plus four cross-Survivor synergies. Rank him on Isolated City Default before you spend a week proving Ranger on Bio Lab.

Guns and the level-up board

Finish Assault Rifle. That is the sentence. Pistol forks that never become the rifle are how dawns stall at minute twelve. Helicopter Strike is the first gadget worth a point after the gun exists. Automatic Turret is second. Grenade Trail is last or skip. Sniper waits for Boss Rush. Grenade Launcher waits until dawn is boring. Weapon range from 1.0 still applies: the rifle stays honest at distance, shotguns do not. See weapon tiers.

If the board offers a rifle stack and a turret stack, take the rifle. If both weapons in the squad are finished, feed Helicopter Strike. Reroll once if the gun is missing. Auto Selection is for farm nights after Isolated City is a badge, not for your first Hardcore.

Workhorse: SWAT lead, Engineer, Tank. Shield plus rockets plus rifle. Isolated City Default, Isolated City Hardcore, first wasteland dawn. Crit school: swap Tank for Huntress when Eagle Eye is online. Boss delete: Ghost can replace Tank if you already kite spitters. Ranger belongs in slot three as a rescue until her ranks exist. Do not lead unranked Ranger because a trailer showed animals. The squad planner and best squads print the same recipes.

Modes

Default: he is the school. Survive until dawn assumes him. Hardcore: same trio, more movement, fewer turret museums — How to beat Hardcore. Long Endurance past thirty minutes: keep the shield, accept that lawnmowers stall, consider Medic only after Hardcore is boring. Boss Rush: burst for minute ten, still lead SWAT unless Ghost is ranked. Bio Lab Default still clears with this workhorse; Ranger is the advertisement, not the requirement. Infinite is a sandbox after you already own the 30-minute Endurance badge.

Training, Camp, items

Role Player so the rifle evolves. Gotta Go Fast so you are not boxed. Bigger Bullets. Refund vanity. Training. Camp missions that ask you to lead Medic or Ranger can wait; the Mission Log retries on your clock. Team Bond still fills from workhorse clears. Chests are extras: items and the item tier list explain greed. Glass Cannon wants a shield, which means Engineer is still in the squad.

If SWAT feels weak, you split the gun line, stood still, or led someone else for a thumbnail. Put him in slot one. Walk. The horde is the exam, not the skill tree. Then open Getting Started if this is still night one.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is SWAT still the best leader after 1.0?

For learning, Hardcore, and most Default dawns, yes. Ranked Ranger can lead later. Unranked Ranger should not replace him on night one.

Which SWAT weapon should I finish?

Assault Rifle. Helicopter Strike after the gun exists. Skip sniper until Boss Rush.

Who should I rescue with SWAT?

Engineer first. Tank or Huntress third. Ranger as a ranked rescue, not an unranked lead.

Do I need to rank SWAT?

Yes if he is your leader. Rank 2 at 5,000 leader kills. The perk doubles. Park nights for other names after Hardcore is a badge.
