Weapon Evolutions Guide

Weapons in Yet Another Zombie Survivors evolve along exclusive tracks. The loadout panel and Zombiepedia show the legal options. You cannot hold Assault Rifle and Grenade Launcher together. You cannot park a pistol at rank two and also collect a sniper because a chest looked shiny. This page is how to finish a line after 1.0 launched on 20 August 2026. Letters live on the weapon tier list. Board order lives on best builds. The first Isolated City night still starts at Getting Started.

You steer one blob of up to three survivors. That is a single-player squad, not co-op. There is no fourth friend and no redeem codes. Play on patch 1.0.0c2. Hover the upgrade. If two guns sit on the same exclusive fork, picking one deletes the other.

Finish the gun, then the gadgets

Take each ability once so the kit exists. Then finish the leader’s weapon. Guns have no long cooldown. An evolved Assault Rifle or Rocket Launcher does more work than a maxed gadget you fire twice a minute. After the gun exists, dump points into the one ability that is already clearing density. That is the same hygiene as survive until dawn. Split lines are how minute four happens with two level-3 toys.

Items can fake a weapon upgrade. They do not replace an evolution. A magnet does not finish the rifle. Glass Cannon on a pistol is a comedy run.

SWAT: pistol into SMG into Assault Rifle

SWAT starts with a pistol. SMG is a stepping stone. Assault Rifle is the 1.0 default. Time-to-kill stays honest from minute two to dawn. Sniper is a boss pocket, not an Isolated City dawn plan. Grenade Launcher is the exclusive fork versus the rifle. Launchers feel cinematic and then reload while a spit cone lands. Take the launcher when dawn is already a badge and you want explosions. Do not take it on Isolated City Hardcore homework.

Helicopter Strike is the first gadget worth a point after the gun exists. Automatic Turret is second. Grenade Trail is last or skip.

Tank: shotgun into Pump into Minigun or Rocket

Tank walks shotgun into Pump-Action Shotgun, then forks Minigun or Rocket Launcher. Finish Rocket Launcher. Minigun wins some DPS meters in long clips if you got it early. Rockets win wipes. 1.0 range still hurts point-blank jokes: a minigun that only works in the horde’s teeth will box you on Bio Lab. Super Shotgun is a close-range T3 some people chase after Pump. It still wants you in the teeth. Bombing Strike is the ability partner, not a replacement for this line.

Engineer: taser into Tesla, not laser or blaster

Engineer starts on taser. Tesla is the lead gun. Laser and blaster are rank-gated forks that look like science and then underperform a bouncing coil. Plasma is the later T3 some people chase after Tesla; it is not a reason to abandon the coil on night one. If she leads, finish Tesla. If she is a rescue, feed SWAT’s rifle or Tank’s rockets before a third turret. The Energy Shield is still the real “weapon” of the kit. Ice Turret is Mechanic’s toy after hotfix 1.0.0a tagged it as Ice. Do not confuse that with this electric line. Tags live on damage types.

Huntress: bow into multishot

Huntress stacks a bow into multishot. Explosive arrows look like a screen-clear and then sit on a corpse while the horde walks through you. Frost arrows are a control fork, not the Default dawn. Eagle Eye is the first ability worth a point even as a rescue. Version 1.0 narrowed the T2 and T3 firing arc from 30 to 20, so the bow wants stacks more than spray. She is honest at distance.

Ghost: katana and kunai

Ghost is a crit and cuts engine, not a rifle. Finish Thousand Cuts / katana if he leads. Kunai Dance is garnish; hotfix 1.0.0c reduced its jitter, so play on 1.0.0c2. He wants to be close. That is why a shield is not optional on Default. Protocol: Critical is the team card even as a rescue.

Pyro: Fire Axe into Blowtorch into Infernax

Pyro walks Fire Axe into Blowtorch, then Infernax on the melee fork. Flamethrower is the other T3 fantasy. Isolated City Default does not need her. Green Hell clumps love burn. Finish a fire line if she leads. If she is a rescue, feed someone else’s gun first. Standing in the mess is how fragile kits die.

Ranger: finish the crossbow

Ranger is the 1.0 ninth survivor. Fear is crowd control. Animals are flavor. The crossbow still needs evolutions. Finish the weapon before you stack every pet gadget. Unranked Ranger is a mascot. Rank her, keep a real gun in the squad, then trust Bio Lab.

1.0 range and penetration

Version 0.9.2 gave every weapon a range parameter. Shotguns and the Minigun fall off at distance. The Sniper likes long range. Taser likes point-blank. Rocket Launcher stays honest at any range. Version 1.0 then changed penetration: most attacks no longer lose damage passing through. That is why a rifle that used to tickle the back of a blob now keeps hitting. It is not a reason to collect four unfinished pistols. Hover the card. Play on 1.0.0c2.

When to reroll, when to Auto Selection

Reroll once if the gun is missing. Do not reroll a finished rifle because a shiny alt-path appeared. If two weapons are offered at the same exclusive tier, pick the one the weapon tier list marks higher for your mode. Default: rifle, rockets, Tesla. Hardcore: same, faster. Endurance: whatever still shoots when cooldown toys fall over. Bio Lab: whatever lets you keep orbiting.

Auto Selection is for farm nights after Isolated City is a badge, not for your first Hardcore. It will take the shiny fork. You will dawn with a museum.

Finish a line. Then talk about gadgets.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can I own Assault Rifle and Grenade Launcher together?

No. They sit on an exclusive SWAT track. The loadout panel shows what cannot coexist. Pick the rifle for almost every 1.0 dawn.

Should I max gadgets before the gun?

No. Take each ability once, finish the weapon, then dump into the one ability that is already clearing packs.

When should I reroll?

Once if the gun is missing. Do not reroll a finished rifle because a shiny fork appeared.

Is Auto Selection good?

For farm nights after Isolated City is a badge. Not for your first Hardcore. It loves shiny forks.
